What Am I Using?
Frequently asked questions
Answers about the browser checker, QR codes, conversions and the other free tools, grouped so you can find the help you need.
What Am I Using? is a growing collection of free utilities. Use More tools at the top of every page, or the list in the footer, to switch tools.
Browser and connection details
What does What Am I Using? show?
It shows the browser and operating system your device reports, the public IP seen by this website, and screen and browser settings that can help with technical support.
Why does it say Windows 10 or 11?
Those systems can use the same traditional user-agent string. When supported, Client Hints help distinguish them. Otherwise we show the uncertainty instead of guessing. Check your Windows version on your computer.
Why does my Mac or Android version look wrong?
Some browsers deliberately report a simplified or older operating-system version. Check your device’s Settings or About screen for the definitive version.
How accurate is the location and ISP?
The location is an approximate IP-based estimate, not GPS or an exact address. The network name comes from network-registration data. A VPN, proxy, mobile network or corporate connection may show its provider rather than your home ISP.
Can this tell whether my VPN is working?
It can help you compare the public IP seen before and after connecting. A changed IP is useful evidence, but this is not a full DNS, WebRTC or VPN security audit.
Why is only IPv4 or IPv6 shown?
We show the address used for this request to the site. A device may have both types, but this page does not separately test both connections.
Why is my screen size different from the number on the box?
Browsers commonly report CSS pixels. Display scaling, browser zoom and pixel density mean these can differ from a screen’s native hardware resolution.
Does “cookies enabled” mean every cookie is allowed?
No. It reflects the browser’s reported setting. Third-party cookies, individual websites and private browsing can have different restrictions.
QR code generator
Can I make a Wi-Fi connection QR code?
Yes. Choose Connect to Wi-Fi in the QR generator, then enter the SSID and password exactly as configured. The data stays in your browser. The downloaded code contains the password, so share it only with people you want to give access.
Can I change the colours, style and centre logo?
Yes. Open Advanced options for colours, square, rounded or dot patterns, logo upload and download size. The generator keeps a clear border and requires dark patterns on a lighter background. Always test the final image with your phone.
Do your QR codes expire or require a subscription?
No expiry or subscription is imposed by this generator. These are static codes containing your information. A linked website can change or disappear, and Wi-Fi credentials can change. We do not track scans.
Can I download a QR code for printing?
Download PNG or SVG. SVG scales cleanly for print layouts; an uploaded logo remains a raster image. Test it at the intended printed size before producing lots of copies.
Text, dates and hashes
What is the difference between Base64 and URL encoding?
Base64 represents data using a text alphabet. URL encoding escapes characters for use in a web address. Neither is encryption. Use HTML entities for character references such as &.
Why will my encoded text not decode?
Check that you selected the matching mode and copied the complete value. Base64 may represent binary data that is not UTF-8 text. URL values can have invalid percent escapes. Each tool explains errors without silently substituting damaged text.
Does the hash generator upload my file?
No. The hash generator reads text or files up to 10 MB in your browser. MD5 and SHA-1 are provided for compatibility, while SHA-256 and SHA-512 are also available. These fast digests are not suitable for password storage.
Are Unix timestamps in seconds or milliseconds?
Both are used. Choose the unit in the timestamp converter. The result shows UTC and device-local time. For typed dates, choose UTC or your device time zone explicitly.
Domain and DNS lookup
What does the domain lookup send to other services?
The domain you submit is queried through Google Public DNS. Registration details for .com and .net come from Verisign RDAP. Requests are made by our server without forwarding your individual IP address. Other extensions include an official registration lookup link.
Why are registration details missing or hidden?
Public records may withhold personal details, a provider may be unavailable, or the extension may use an official lookup link instead. For .uk we link to Nominet. A missing result does not establish that a domain is available to buy.
Why do these DNS answers differ from my computer?
The domain tool queries Google Public DNS. Your device may use another resolver or a different cached answer. DNS records and registration records describe different aspects of a domain.
Other handy utilities
What does the text scrambler preserve?
The scrambler keeps the first and last letters of words, punctuation and spacing, while shuffling letters inside longer words. It is a reading challenge, not encryption.
Does the lottery number generator improve my chances?
No. The number generator makes random picks without repeats within each set. It does not predict results, buy tickets or improve the odds of a fair draw. Check your game’s current rules.
Beep test timer
Can the beep test fit my back garden?
Yes. The beep-test timer starts with 20 metres, but you can change your measured distance, pace and timing. A shorter course adds more turns, so treat it as custom practice rather than comparing it directly with an official 20-metre score.
Can I use a Bluetooth speaker for the beeps?
Yes. Pair it through your phone’s settings, then use Test sound. Keep the browser visible and the screen awake. Your device can interrupt audio or refuse a wake lock; the app ends an interrupted continuous session instead of claiming reliable timing.
Rubik’s Cube solver
What cube sizes can I choose?
The cube page defaults to 3×3 and offers a slider from 2×2 to 9×9. Enter all six faces, then follow the returned turns. Larger-cube searches and solutions can take longer; a cancelled or timed-out search keeps your input.
Can I scan my cube without downloading an app?
The cube solver includes an optional camera scanner. Use your phone camera or desktop webcam in the browser, with no app download or account needed. Align one face with the guide and hold steady for automatic capture, or press Capture this face. Check or correct every colour and confirm it before continuing. Use good lighting; faint seams or glare may need manual capture. Images stay on your device; no microphone is requested. Manual entry is always available.
Are cube solutions based on the scramble history?
No. The solver receives the sticker colours and verifies the returned moves by replaying them. A random practice scramble is just a way to try the tool. Incorrect colours or a physically altered puzzle can prevent a valid solution.
Privacy, sharing and returning to a tool
Is this tool free?
Yes. You can use the checker and create a support report without an account or payment. Advertising and clearly labelled affiliate links may help fund the site.
Can I safely send the support report?
Review it first and send it only to a trusted support contact. Your public IP is excluded unless you choose to include it. Avoid adding passwords or other confidential information.
Do you save my support report?
The report is assembled in your browser. Copying or downloading it does not upload it to us. The website still receives normal connection information needed to deliver the page.
Do I need JavaScript?
Yes, for browser detection and report controls. The guides and FAQ remain readable without it.
Are my tool inputs saved or sent to analytics?
The text, timestamp, hash, random-number and QR tools process your input on your device. Uploaded hash files and logos stay there too. Domain lookup is the exception because it queries public providers. We do not send tool inputs, file names, passwords or results as analytics events. See our privacy notice.
Does Share this tool include my inputs or results?
No. It shares only the page link, using your device’s share menu where supported, or copies that link. It does not include a support report, Wi-Fi password or anything you entered.
How do I add a tool to my favourites?
Press Save to favourites for instructions. On a computer, use Ctrl + D or ⌘ + D. On a phone, use the browser menu or Share menu. Your browser controls bookmark creation; websites cannot save a bookmark automatically.
