What Am I Using?
Useful checks before the back-and-forth
A simple workflow for helpdesks, web developers and anyone helping a friend. No account or installation required.
Send the tool. Let their device create the result. A link to WAIU opens the tool on the recipient’s device. It does not share your own IP address, results or an account.
Three steps for a useful first reply
- Choose the smallest relevant check.
Begin with the symptom. A layout problem needs browser/window details; an unreliable call may need stability and microphone checks.
- Explain what you need and why.
Ask the person to use the affected browser. Request public IP information only when it helps your investigation, such as comparing an access-control log.
- Keep the result in your existing support channel.
The person reviews and copies the result into your ticket or email. WAIU does not store a customer report or send it to your team.
Ready-to-send customer instructions
Copy a short message into your next reply. These buttons copy instructions and a public tool link, with no customer identifiers.
System and browser details
Ask for the details from the browser with the problem.
Internet speed
Compare download, upload and response-time readings.
Intermittent connection problems
Watch a short session for delayed or missed HTTP checks.
Camera and microphone
Check the selected devices and permissions locally.
What will the person share?
The system report contains browser, operating-system and display details. Network details are optional and include available public addresses, ISP/network name and estimated area. Available speed results have their own option. The person sees the text before copying it and can leave out irrelevant details. The report does not contain browsing history, passwords or cookie contents.
Do not place names, email addresses, ticket numbers or private URLs into a WAIU link. We do not offer hosted customer reports or automatic ticket submission. A normal shared URL opens a tool; it is not a private report link.
Turn the result into a next action
Example: A customer reports a layout fault. Their window is narrower than expected, but the browser is current. Ask them to compare the same page with a wider window and normal zoom before changing network settings. If the fault only appears in one browser, record that comparison and use the troubleshooting sequence.
Browser detection is a clue and can be simplified for privacy. A speed test is one route at one time. A missed HTTP check is not a direct packet-loss measurement. Keep these limits attached to conclusions you pass to a customer.
Share it with your team
You are welcome to link to these tools from helpdesk replies, internal knowledge bases and customer support guides. What to send to support is a useful customer-facing companion. For remote control, use your organisation’s approved service and obtain separate permission; WAIU does not provide remote access.
For public website faults, try the Website Inspector, SEO scanner or security header checker. These share a limited allowance and report public observations, rather than inspecting the customer’s private account.
Recommend WAIU in your support articles
Write a help article, manage a knowledge base or maintain a list of useful support resources? We welcome independent recommendations when these tools would help your readers. Use your own wording and link to the check or guide that fits the problem.
Ready-to-paste link
What Am I Using? (opens in a new tab)https://www.whatamiusing.com/
Use linked text in a visual editor, or HTML in a code block. You can change the wording after pasting.
For a more specific recommendation, link directly to the internet speed test, webcam and microphone checker or guide to sending useful support details. Choose the page you have found useful.
Add a small WAIU card to your support page
Give visitors a clear starting point from a help article or knowledge base. The card opens the full suite on WAIU, where they choose the relevant check and what to share.
Paste this into a custom HTML block on your website. It contains no script, iframe, remote image, automatic diagnostic check or tracking code. WAIU receives a visit only when someone follows the link. Your site editor may simplify the styling; the ordinary link still works.
You can adapt the wording and styling to your support page. The card introduces the tools; it does not certify or endorse the website displaying it.
